A Queen's Dream
FALL / WINTER 2023
EDITORIAL
Having fled their kingdom for several days now, Queen Akan Abla Pokou and her followers have finally set foot on the soil of present-day Côte d'Ivoire. The Baoulé people will settle in Namounou, in the Bouaké region, not far from the village of Akawa.
A wind of freedom now blows over this weakened people.
Year after year, the kingdom prospers thanks to the devotion of its people.
One moonlit evening, Abla Pokou, unable to sleep, got out of bed and went for a walk near the river.
Attracted by a glow emanating from the hollow of a tree, she approached slowly until she was dazzled.
She was as if transported through the decades into the distant history of a kingdom that seemed to be her own.
